Week One Financial Peace

April 7, 2014 by tillywee Leave a Comment

As I approached this class, I was feeling insecure, scared, and unmotivated.  I was feeling all of those things about finances.  However, I was feeling motivated, hopeful, and fearless when it came to my marriage.  I truly believed that this class was going to help my marriage.  Hoping for that peace that would come from taking this class was my motivation.  Little did I know that after the 9 weeks was over, I would be so thankful that I faced my fears and insecurities about finances.

This first class was SO simple, yet very profound.  It laid the entire foundation of the program.  The first lesson helped me to see just how simple it could be.  I am NOT saying that implementing these steps was easy, I am just stating how encouraging it was for me to lay out the steps to success in this area of life.  You need to go to http://www.daveramsey.com/home/ to find out more so that you too can learn the seven baby steps!  My biggest take away from this lesson was that my every day daily decisions make a great impact on my ability to have financial peace.

(just a side note here, I am NOT being paid by Daveramsey.com for this blog, these are just my opinions based on my experiences taking this amazing class! They did gift me six months of their financial software program, but that was just because I begged…yes, I humbly admit that I begged because I love the program SO much and we had not budgeted for this program yet…so, I now have six months to figure out how to budget the cost of the optional software that daveramsey offers.)  (-:

Financial Peace Week Two

April 7, 2014 by tillywee Leave a Comment

Week two! This was my favorite class of all!  The emotional and relational side of finances is sometimes ignored in marriage.  This lesson really helped my husband and I better understand each other.  I now understand his “nerdiness”, and the reasons and the thought process for his decisions regarding our finances.  He now is getting better at understanding my “free spirit” and impulse spending I struggle with.  This lesson really helped us both with the “peace” of financial peace.  Understanding one anthers struggles is key to peace for us!

So, I wanted to post each week about the Financial Peace University class…but, hey, I will post now about the PEACE this class claims to help me have.  Guess what??? I have it!  We have it!  That PEACE of financial peace. I am so excited and this program WORKS!  I will for sure write more soon.  I plan to blog about each lesson individually.  Dave Ramsey really has a wonderful system and if you follow the system, it will FREE you!

Please go to DaveRamsey.com and find out more! Find a class near you and join it today!  Teach your children, believe me, it is SO exciting!  I will share more next Monday!

Trip through Financial Peace University

February 4, 2014 by tillywee Leave a Comment

Signed up for Financial Peace?  Your thinking of signing up for Financial Peace?  Well, my husband and I have signed up and now officially attended two Financial Peace University classes.  So far, so good.  Right? Peace?

Well,  not yet, not immediately, but I can tell its helping.  What I am finding is that it takes patience and much hard work to find Financial Peace. That PEACE we are looking for, I know it will come, but for now, the conversations are going something like this:  Him, “You did not tell me about this bill! Why didn’t you ever tell me about this bill?”  Me, “Well, I knew we could eventually pay it so I just worked out a payment plan with them.”  Him, “So, we have been paying them $25/month for an entire year?  No interest right?”  Me, “Yeah!  NO interest!  I should score points for that one at least!”

History:  we are a family of six, four children, two of whom are coming of age to begin to have to apply many of the things we are learning in class.  The other two littles, they have their 3 bins and I have noticed they usually put more money in the bin for themselves than they do the bin for savings or for God, but, they are excited about saving their money!

They are learning that  Work=pay and they are begging mom for more paying jobs!

When we were first married my husband took care of the money completely, we were married with me just out of college, I never lived on my own and had had very little income to budget,  all my money was pre-designated to true college expenses, tithe, college books, and laundry.  (I was NOT a party type)

A few years into marriage, and two kids later, he decided I could handle the finances on my own.  About six years later and two more kids into our marriage, it was not going so well.   I was losing it, losing it all, spending it all, and not keeping track of it.  He would ask me things like, “Why is our credit card bill so high?”  My answer, “I don’t know, we needed stuff, look at the bill, it will tell you,  I do not want to talk about it.”  and,  I STILL don’t want to talk about it!

So, instead I am blogging about it!

So, knowing our peace, our marriage, and our families future depend so heavily on knowing where our money goes, I SIGNED us up for the class! Praying this class will take us on an amazing journey and we will find “Financial Peace.”

So, read along with me as I post the most important take aways that I as a “free-spirit” glean from this amazing class.

Maybe you too can find this peace I am looking for!
