The exhibit hall had fossils and a couple of activities for the kids! They enjoyed trying to make fossilized foot prints in different types of materials, experimenting with what type of surface was best for preservation. There is also a few life size dinosaur bones that are really fun to see! The boys loved to sit on the bone benches to observe the Triceratops!

This panning activity was a favorite for my kids! they love to see the dirt and pebbles wash away and leave their favorite shiny gems! This activity varies in cost so make sure you check the prices before you commit to purchase. Price is comparable to the gem tables inside a lot of tourist stores where you fill your bag with rocks, but this is a LOT more fun! Your kids actually begin to learn a bit about mining and panning while doing this entertaining activity! I recommend using the identification brochure provided by Dinosaur Ridge and take the time to try to identify the gems or fossils you collect during this activity. Pretty amazing when your preschooler can identify and ammonite correctly!
